After years of supporters asking for one, Hebden Bridge’s Happy Valley Pride hosted a parade to celebrate its 10th anniversary and what a celebration it was! Full of placards, puppets, positivity and pride, it was a joyful expression of everything the festival stands for.
This arts-based parade of hope and compassion brought an energetic sea of rainbow colours to the streets, with a host of fabulous new puppets making their debut. One standout was a David Hoyle-inspired character, created by a brilliant team of Happy Valley Pride volunteers. It brought so much joy to the parade – if ever a puppet was made for strutting its stuff, this was the one!
The Gardener and Otter were created during a masterclass with Andrew Kim of Thingumajig Theatre. An international team of artists worked their socks off to bring these two beauties to life in such a short space of time, and they were a huge hit with the audience. A massive well done to everyone involved!
A heartfelt thank you to all the teams and individuals who helped make the parade such an inclusive, joyful day out. From families and community groups to stewards, volunteers and everyone at Happy Valley Pride, you all played a part in making it happen. You’re all absolutely MARVELLOUS!
