Adding the final touches to our “Tales and Trail Adding the final touches to our “Tales and Trails” art work, and taking a moment to reflect on the project as a whole. It’s been a really interesting process - from the initial notes made in meetings at @folklorecentretodmorden via creative work with many groups and heading straight towards the live performances this weekend. As one of the @culturedale key commissions, it’s been an opportunity to explore local folklore in depth and an absolute pleasure. These beautiful paper cuts are based on the protective sigils commonly found carved on thresholds around Calderdale. The whole theme of our piece “THRESHOLD”, came from discussion of these. What happens on the boundary between day and night? Winter and Spring? Domestic and wild? This world and another? Many thanks to the young people at @calderdalecollege and @1stheptonstall_rangers for skilfully preparing these delicate cut-outs. Just got to add them to our lanterns now without ripping them. Aww, we love this bit. Teaching people to stilt-wa Aww, we love this bit. Teaching people to stilt-walk always has this first session of wobbly-legged fear. It’s like watching a room full of baby deer taking their first steps. And then those steps become braver, and stronger, and suddenly you’re in absolute awe of these bad-ass confident young people towering above you and strutting around like they were born 8ft tall. It’s ACE. Just wait till you see these young people from @stagedoorcolne all costumed-up in the WinterBloom parade (@colnewinterbloom Saturday 15th Feb, 5:45pm, Colne Town Centre).
