Great masterclass today as part of our Colne WinterBloom programme. Thanks so much to Richard Babington @whatrichcreates and Chris Ball @whatchriscreates for generously sharing your expertise on all things lighting.

We’ve really enjoyed meeting all the participants and discussing different approaches to lighting artworks for parades and events. LOADS to think about, now we’ve just got to try and make sense of our hastily scribbled notes.

✨5 day Giant Lantern Masterclass✨
Monday 23rd until Friday 27th Sept 9.30am-4pm
There are 4 places available on a first come first serve basis
Total cost for 5 days = £400

Join Handmade Productions former Artistic Director, Kerith Ogden as she guides you through how to create 2 large static outdoor lanterns.

In this 5 day masterclass you’ll learn about the whole process from design to installation and have creative input into the decoration and finishing of the structures. Expect to learn in detail about surface decoration, low voltage LED lighting systems and building structures from timber, metal and withies. We’ll also take you through basic lantern lighting techniques (also applicable to puppets and costumes), different lighting options, connections and power sources that are available.

This is also an opportunity to meet other puppet makers from Handmade Productions, connect to fellow early career artists and to see a number of artworks up close.
Accommodation is not included but we can recommend places to stay in the Hebden Bridge area.

About Kerith:
Kerith Ogden @redant_art is a freelance maker and illustrator based in West Yorkshire, UK.
She has worked in the outdoor arts sector as an artist, director, event organiser and facilitator for 25 years, and specialises in making colourful, sculptural, outdoor lanterns and giant puppets, with a very strong focus on environmentally sustainable materials and processes.
Recent work includes commissions for Kew Gardens, Artichoke, Wild Rumpus, Walk the Plank, RSPB, Preston Caribbean Carnival, Bluedot festival, and Handmade Productions

It’s been a real pleasure to host the #coatofhopes this afternoon. Thanks to all who visited and shared their hopes.

“The Coat of Hopes is a patchwork pilgrim coat, on an ongoing walk through Britain.

Made, worn and walked by many hundreds of people during and since the pilgrimage on which it was created - from the south coast of England to the gates of COP 26, the UN climate summit, in Glasgow autumn 2021.

The Coat is made up of pieces of blanket into which people have worked their griefs, remembrances, prayers and hopes for the place they call home.

It walks ever calling those who encounter it, or who share it, into the present. Supported by its warmth (love) - to bear its weight (responsibility). So each might “wear the promise that we all belong together” as we seek to respond with our whole self to the climate and ecological emergency.”
